The Apostolic Church International, USA Covenant Assembly in Maryland the dedication of their new temple, marking the culmination of a long, determined journey from the year 2000. This significant event occurred on Saturday, July 13, 2024.
The origins of the USA Covenant Assembly could be traced back to a group of Ghanaian church members, immigrants in Maryland. Under the leadership of the late Elder Henry Bampoe-Darko, they travelled weekly to the Virginia Assembly for fellowship. In 2001, they secured a meeting place at the Knight of Columbus near College Park, Maryland, to officially establish their presence in the State.
Due to some leadership challenges between 2004 and 2007, some members isolated themselves. However, the resilient spirit of the few congregants prevailed. Between 2007 and 2009, under the guidance of Pastor Agyemang Duah and Pastor Ackah, the Virginia Assembly Presbytery periodically shared fellowship with the Maryland remnant of the branch to keep the fire aglow.
In 2010, Pastor Daniel Quartey, then the Virginia District Pastor, appointed Elder Simon Coffie to lead the Maryland congregation who were fellowshipping at the Holiday Inn Express Hotel in College Park, Maryland. By 2011, they moved to a modified grocery store building on Old Baltimore Pike in Burtonsville, Maryland, where they worshipped for nearly four years.
In October 2015, due to coding issues discovered by the Estate Management, the church was compelled to relocate. This led to the congregation worshipping at various hotels in Montgomery County. In early 2017, they obtained permission to worship in a nearby school building, which they used until the COVID-19 pandemic forced them to move their services online.
In 2021, the church successfully secured a new building at 795 Aquahart Road, Glen Burnie, Maryland, and began holding official meetings to date. Reflecting on this 24-year journey, the congregation can only attribute their success to the mighty hand of God and give him glory for His unwavering goodness and mercy.
During the dedication ceremony, Apostle Dr. Aaron Ami-Narh, President of TAC-GH, emphasized the importance of self-dedication to God. He stated, “The dedication of this building will not be meaningful if the occupants do not dedicate themselves to God as living sacrifices, holy and acceptable unto Him.” Drawing from Romans 12:1-2, he reminded the congregation that, “No matter how beautiful the container looks, the content is the most important factor.”
He concluded by highlighting the essence of true Christianity: “True Christianity is not a quid pro quo but is based on true self-sacrifice, which does not expect a payback.”
The dedication of the new temple is a testament to the faith, perseverance, and dedication of the USA Covenant Assembly-Maryland. As they look back on their history, they give all glory to God for His continual substance, blessings, and guidance.
